OUR STORY
A better life, built together.
Maisha Bora means “better life” in Swahili. Our community-led Skills Appreciation programme helps African migrants and refugees recognise their experience, build confidence and find new opportunities in North Queensland.
Everyone arrives
with strengths.
Language, unfamiliar systems and confidence can make it difficult to use those strengths in a new country. We provide a culturally safe, practical and supportive environment to help people rediscover what they can do and apply it in Australia.
Our work connects learning with real life: education, employment, community participation and a sense of belonging.

MULTICULTURAL QUEENSLAND AWARDS · 2025
Recognising a
community effort.
Maisha Bora received the Multicultural Sector Outstanding Achiever Award in 2025. It recognises the work of volunteers and participants supporting refugees and migrants as they settle into life in North Queensland.
